for years of wear and tear.
The process of creating YOUR quilt:
Upon receipt of your shirts, the front or backs are carefully cut apart making note of any special cutting requirements such as v-necks, raglan sleeves, tank tops or side seams, etc and the shirt image.
They are then cut into oversized squares and a light weight iron interfacing is added for stabilizing, then cut to a standard size of 15" plus the seam allowance. The 15" size square is large enough to allow most designs to be included within the square with little or no trimming.
Unless you have specified a certain placement of your shirts*, all squares are laid out and positioned into the most pleasing placement looking for color, balance and eye flow. The shirts are then tagged as to their placement. If fabric (sashing) is to be sewn between the shirts it is now added. Shirts are then sewn into rows and the rows joined to form your quilt top. Normally a narrow 1" inside border is added and finally a 3.5" - 4" outside border completes the top. Please note that most other quilting companies DO NOT include a border on your quilt. They merely bind the edges often cutting off part of your design.
*Please let me do the layout unless you really want the shirts in a special order. For a specific layout each shirt must be numbered and tagged. Please refer to specific directions you will receive by requesting an "Information Packet: via email. Send request to gonnarun26pt2@msn.com

Your quilt is made of three layers–the quilt backing, batting and the quilt top. Either a 100% cotton or 80% cotton/20% polyester batting is preferred. The thickness of this batting is the most commonly used in modern day quilts. When washed the batting shrinks a bit, giving the quilt a nice "antique" look and feel. All added fabrics are 100% cotton. Unlike some companies, we do not use fleece and your quilt is quilted, not tied or the shirts sewn together then stitched to the backing and turned right side out.
Your quilt is quilted with an overall meandering (wandering) pattern on a an APQS long arm quilting machine. The quilting is what is known as "free-motion" – no computer here! In "free motion" all quilting is done at random, not a repeated pattern.
When the quilting has been completed, the quilt is trimmed, then bound to finish the edges. The binding is added and securely stitched by machine. A final inspection to check for any unclipped threads or minor flaws is done before readying your quilt for shipment.
